Memorial Day 2025: A Community Message

Dear New PÕ¾ÊÓƵ College Community,
This weekend, as we mark Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice remind us of the cost of freedom and the profound responsibility we share to preserve it.
At New PÕ¾ÊÓƵ College, we hold a deep respect for all who serve, including the many veterans, active-duty military members, and military families who are part of our community. We are especially proud of our alumni who have answered the call to serve, and we hold in our hearts the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice—like William Troy, a Concord native and 1952 NEC graduate. Troy served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was killed in action on June 10, 1953, while going to the aid of a fellow soldier. His legacy of service, dedication, and leadership continues to inspire our community and is honored annually through the William Troy Award.
Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer—it is a day of remembrance, gratitude, and reflection. I encourage you to take time this weekend to honor those who gave everything so that we may live freely. Attend a local ceremony, visit a memorial, or simply pause for a moment of silence.
On behalf of the entire NEC community, I wish you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day.
Warm regards,
Dr. Wayne F. Lesperance, Jr.
President
